It's Christmas!

I had two 'rules' for the tree this year. 1. Only gold, white and clear decorations. 2. No tinsel. Hannah and Rosie did the decorating and a few non-rules things have sneaked on (like the red crackers), but I think they did a great job and they were very proud of it when they had finished.

One of the non-white/gold/clear decorations is this pretty angel which belongs to Hannah. But she's so gorgeous I allowed her to stay.

This is the nativity Hannah made at school a couple of years ago. It owes a great deal to egg boxes and toilet roll middles. Rosie made the angel on the far left and the other angel is a bamboo one they fell in love with in a shop in Solva when they were babies.

This is the dining room window tree - a goat willow branch planted in a pot with all our homemade decorations and a few fairies on board. Half of the lights are out (as usual!). I need a bumper pack of spare bulbs for this set.

  1. Lovely. I start with rules every year but always end up bunging it all on as usual.

  2. Oh, they're lovely, Preseli Mags! Especially that darling little nativity scene. I've always imagined making a little knitted one for our house, but somehow never got round to it. We're doing our tree tomorrow.

  3. AHHH! I had rules too, and wherever I look there's some ghastly piece of gaudiness! Still, don't mind really. It's all fun, non?

  4. I have that angel on a hoop too, love it. But not as much as I love that nativity. Perfect. Happy Christmas to you all. x

  6. 'Well done' to the girls! Isn't it great when the children are really old enough to take over the tree - I always found it a huge treat to provide the egg nog and goodies and just let them go at it, after years of being the one doing it all.
I love your window arrangement - may 'borrow' that idea.......and the nativity - those things always make me feel a bit choked up. They are so precious.

  7. Oh that's lovely. We have the "full-on" Christmas tree with every bauble we have ever bought and totally OTT! The only time I get to touch it is when I thrust it, balding and shedding, out through the living room window on 6th January (or earlier if it really IS shedding).

Your little goat willow tree reminds me of when I was growing up. I don't remember many "proper" trees, apart from one which had the original painted tin clip-on candle holderss (what would Health and Safety make of those nowadays?) What I do remember is going and cutting a branch of gorse from the garden (we had a wild garden) and painting it with flour and water paste, then sprinkling glitter on it, and putting the decorations on. It sat in a bucket (wrapped with wrapping paper) on the end of the sideboard and looked lovely.

  8. Gorgeous pm. I never manage rules either although every year I think I might do the tasteful Sarah Raven stuff. Just doesn't happen.

  9. Sweet Nativity - I love things like that that the children make. I have a knitted one LBD - forgot about that as it is packed away - that makes 4 crib sets I've got!

Have a wonderful Christmas PM with your lovely family.
