Three books for my babies

I was inspired to do this post by Chris Stovell at Home Thoughts Weekly, so I urge you to click the link and read her lovely choices too.

One that helped them learn to read:
Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson.
The witch tapped the broomstick and whoosh! they were gone.

One that helped them not to be afraid:
George and the Dragon by Chris Wormell.
'I say, you couldn't loan me a couple of lumps of sugar, could you?' asked George.

One that made us feel cosy:
Some Dogs Do by Jez Alborough
Sid's dad slowly raised his head. 'I know a secret, Sid,' he said.

What are your three books for your babies?

  1. I love your choices, Mags! I do hope other folks take up the baton so we can see what they're reading. We all have very happy memories of 'our' books, in fact a bedtime story was something we kept up with for a very long time. Happy days!

  2. My own baby just loved being read to, so we tackled rather hard books like Alice in Wonderland - I swear that's how he learned to love subtle jokes and old-fashioned language. But nowadays I give babies of my acquaintance the wonderful books of Janet and Allan Ahlberg, especially 'Peepo!" and "The Baby's Catalogue" - winners every time.

  3. Ooh, a mum after my own heart! Loved Room on the Broom and Jez Aldborough (Fix-it Duck was our fave) – so sad my boy is too old now and likes gory teenage stuff (still can't bear to part with Mr Gumpy's outing and my very favourite, beautifully illustrated Down in the Ocean). Lovely choices.

  4. Being on the North American Continent, Dr. Seuss books, and, of course, Canada's Winnie the Pooh.
